In 1992, Shell Mazda Racing Team, ran by Roger Dowson Engineering, entrered select events during the 1992 British Touring Car Championship. They hired Australian Matthew Wheeler their sole 323F. They entered 3 rounds throughout the season and even won a race at Donington Park. They pulled out of the BTCC at the end of 1992, hoping to develop a new car to re-enter the series in the future.
Having sat out 1993 developing the new MXedos, Team Mazda returned to the grid jointly being ran by Roger Dowson Engineering and reigning Independent champions, Team Dynamics. They hired 2 British rookies to pilot the Xedos, Daniel Hurlock and Emile Taylor.
