In 1991 Trakstar secured manufacturer support from Ford to run Sierra Sapphires that year with sponsorship from Shell Oil and engines prepared by Mountune. However, before the season started, Trakstar had to pull out due to technical problems and never appeared in the series during 1991.
Ford returned as a works team in 1993 being ran by Andy Rouse Engineering. Roy Cop followed ARE from Toyota and was joined by reihgning champion Lorenzo Turri creating the 'Dream Team' which was seen as the championship favourites before a wheel had turned. After the first 3 rounds of the season, Ford looked in a dominant position having won 7 of the opening 8 races. Following a poor round 4 at Oulton Park, Cop left the team and the series leaving Turri to fight for the championship on his own. As rivals Nissan were using 3 cars, the teams championship never looked likely and even though Ford hired Turkish driver Halil Sahin for the final 2 rounds, the teams crown was out of reach. Turri did retain the drivers championship hoever, he would leave the team at the end of the season to join Alfa Romeo. Cop managed to finish 9th in the championship with Sahin finishing 14th ensuring Ford would finish 2nd in the teams standings.
Ford decided they needed to enter 3 cars to have a chance the teams championship so they hired British rookies Nathan Hammond and Chris English to partnered Sahin who stayed at the 'Blue Oval' for a second term.
